A police team that visited Dharampur area of Mandi district to investigate the alleged harassment of a woman by her in-laws were targeted by family members of the in-laws who resorted to stone pelting. The police team had gone to Dharampur based on the woman’s complaint.
Late night incident
The incident took place late on Wednesday night at Chanauta village of Dharampur. The ASI of the police team was injured during this attack. The police have started investigation by registering a case of obstruction and assault against the accused.
Complaint filed by woman
According to information received from the police, the woman lodged a complaint with the Dharampur police station over the phone on Wednesday night that her in-laws had harassed her and had thrown her out of the house.
The woman apparently was sitting outside the house in the dark and appealed for protection to the police.The police reached the location with ASI Ravindra Kumar leading them, around midnight.
They found themselves targeted by the woman’s husband, mother-in-law and brother-in-law, who attacked them with stones. The police were caught off guard by this attack and did not even get a chance to recover.
ASI Ravindra Kumar who was injured in the attack was taken to the Civil Hospital in Dharampur by the police team.
The police team visited the spot again on Thursday led by station in-charge Kuldeep Singh but did not find anyone there. DSP Sarkaghat, Tilakraj said that the incident is being investigated.
