Pensioners in Kangra district took to the streets in Dharamshala on Monday, marching from the Martyrs Memorial to the DC Office, to voice their grievances and demand action from the government. Led by the Pensioners Welfare Association, the rally saw a significant turnout of retired government employees advocating for their rights.

Addressing the gathering, District Head Suresh Thakur highlighted the frustration among pensioners due to the government’s neglect. He emphasized the longstanding issue of unpaid dues, including the sixth pay commission arrears dating back to 2016, as well as increased commuting expenses and delayed gratuity payments.

The pensioners submitted a memorandum through the district administration, outlining their demands and urging the Chief Minister to intervene. Key among their requests is the immediate payment of 80% of the arrears accrued between January 1, 2016, and January 31, 2022, along with the timely disbursal of three installments of the inflation allowance.

Furthermore, they called for prompt action on medical allowances, proposing the issuance of a notification to address this vital aspect of their welfare. The pensioners expressed their disappointment with the government’s treatment and emphasized the need for timely and fair compensation for their years of service.

The rally underscored the growing frustration among pensioners over the lack of acknowledgment and fulfillment of their rightful dues. As they await a response from the authorities, pensioners remain steadfast in their determination to secure their rights and dignity in retirement.
