Dharamshala | TNR
Chaitdu in Dharamshala could have been spared of the devastation that it witnessed a week ago due to flooding. Several houses and large stretches of roads were damaged.
Former state minister explains
Former urban development minister and Congress national secretary Sudhir Sharma explained that had the Union government’s
Maharashtra-based Central Water and Power Research Station sanctioned the Rs 95 crore DPR for channelisation of the Manjhi, Manuni and Charan khuds, among others the floodwaters would have been evenly distributed in the khuds.
Sharma has urged the Himachal Pradesh government to get the sanction for this DPR and to commence work on the project on a war footing.
DPR was ready in 2015-16
Sharma said that during his tenure as urban development minister the project for channelisation of various khuds was initiated.
Subsequently, the DPR was sent to the Central Water and Power Research Station. The DPR was of Rs 95.34 crore but was not sanctioned then.
Project should be taken seriously
Sharma said that this was not the first time that Dharamshala and its surrounding villages have borne the brunt of floods.
People, as well as hydel power department, public works department, electricity board and water supply department, have been incurring major losses due to floods, he said adding that the sitting MLAs of the area concerned are also not taking this issue seriously.
