Mandi: Another death due to jaundice has been reported in Jogindernagar subdivision of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh as a 24-year-old youth, Arun Sharma, passed away during treatment at Tanda Medical College.
Arun, who had been showing symptoms of jaundice for several days, was admitted to the hospital only on Friday and succumbed to the illness overnight.
The incident has caused widespread concern in Jogindernagar. Deputy Commissioner of Mandi Apoorv Devgan, along with Chief Medical Officer (CMO) NK Bhardwaj and a team from the health department, has rushed to Arun’s residence in Laxmi Bazaar. Additionally, a health department team from Jogindernagar has also arrived at the scene.
Arun, the son of Vichitra Singh, worked in a shop in Jogindernagar market. Despite seeking treatment from private hospitals and local healers, his condition did not improve, following which his family decided to take him to Tanda Medical College where he passed away during treatment.
CMO NK Bhardwaj has urged the public to maintain hygiene by washing hands thoroughly before meals and drinking only boiled water. He also advised against relying on local healers and emphasised the importance of seeking immediate medical attention if jaundice symptoms appeared, to ensure timely and proper treatment.
This recent death follows the demise of a 19-year-old nursing student named Shilpa, who also fell victim to jaundice in Jogindernagar last week. The outbreak is proving to be fatal, underscoring the urgent need for effective public health measures.
