Palampur: In a surprising lapse, both the Palampur administration and municipal corporation forgot to observe Mahatma Gandhi’s Martyrdom Day on January 30.
This day is commemorated at Gandhi Ground in Palampur, where the administration and municipal corporation join hands to lay flowers and offer a floral tribute to the statue of Mahatma Gandhi. Unfortunately, this year, the day passed unnoticed by the authorities.
Every year, on this day, a wreath and a flower garland are placed at the statue of Mahatma Gandhi at Gandhi Ground in Palampur. However, the significance of Mahatma Gandhi’s Martyrdom Day was overlooked by the administration and municipal corporation. The neglect was evident as no arrangements were made, and the statue of Mahatma Gandhi remained alone and unadorned.
Across the nation, citizens shared images of Mahatma Gandhi’s statue, adorned with flowers, as a mark of respect. The phrase “Mahatma Gandhi Amar Hai” echoed on social media, expressing the eternal nature of Gandhi’s ideals. However, in Palampur, the administrative bodies were engrossed in their routine tasks, seemingly unaware of the significant day.
While the rest of the country actively participated in remembering Mahatma Gandhi on his martyrdom day, the administration and municipal corporation of Palampur inadvertently failed to acknowledge this momentous occasion. It serves as a reminder of the importance of upholding historical and national observances even in the midst of daily responsibilities.
