DHARAMSHALA: On the fourth day of Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha’s winter session at Tapovan in Dharamshala on Friday (December 22, 2023), opposition BJP MLAs kept up with their morning practice of protesting against the Congress government’s “unfulfilled guarantees” in an innovative manner.
Led by leader of opposition and former Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, the BJP MLAs reached the Assembly wearing white gowns and carrying education degrees. The aim, said Jai Ram, was to remind Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of their pre-poll guarantee of providing 5 lakh jobs to unemployed youth in the very first year after the Congress came to power.
The BJP MLAs symbolically tore and burnt their degrees on the Assembly premises. Jai Ram maintained that the Sukhu government had failed to provide jobs to the youth. “The youth of Himachal Pradesh have been staring at a dark future. Such is the poor state of affairs that youths who have appeared for job entrance tests have been awaiting the declaration of results for several months. The Staff Selection Commission in Hamirpur has been disbanded, but its replacement has failed to come into force even after several months. The government must provide jobs to the youth as soon as possible,” said Jai Ram.
On the first day of the House session on Tuesday, the BJP MLAs had worn apron-type placards around their necks with the promise of 300 units of free power mentioned. On the second day, they brought cow dung in baskets to highlight the Sukhu regime of the promise of buying cow dung at Rs 2 per kg from farmers. On Thursday, they carried along milk tumblers to remind the government of the promise of purchasing milk at Rs 100 per kg.
