Dharamshala: Government schools in Kangra district face a setback in academic activities as annual distribution events take precedence, with local politicians actively participating in and organizing these functions.
As the clock ticks down to the impending 10th and 12th-grade board exams, teachers find themselves more involved in preparing for the grand welcome of local legislators and ministers. Students, on the other hand, are caught up in rehearsals for cultural presentations and other programs scheduled for these events.
Less than 60 days remaining until the commencement of board exams, the heightened focus on these distribution events raises concerns about the state’s commitment to improving the education system in government schools.
Despite efforts by the education department to curb such events, the active involvement of politicians in organizing and participating in these functions seems to contradict the mission of enhancing educational standards.
The official schedule for board exams typically begins in early March, providing schools with a limited timeframe for final exam preparations. Parents express significant worries about the prioritization of these events over crucial academic readiness, especially given the upcoming exams.
The extensive preparations and fanfare accompanying these annual events, which often include grand programs and cultural presentations, have sparked concerns among parents and educators alike.
The interruption of academic activities in government schools raises questions about the appropriateness of holding such events, particularly when around 43 days are left for educational activities in January and February.
It is crucial to address this issue promptly, ensuring that the remaining academic days are utilized effectively for the benefit of students in government schools. The focus should be on maintaining the sanctity of the academic calendar and guaranteeing that children receive uninterrupted, quality education, especially during the crucial period leading up to board exams.
