There is good news for millions of domestic and foreign tourists who come every year to enjoy nature’s beauty at the Rohtang pass, the gateway to the Lahaul-Spiti valley of Himachal.
Tourists will no longer have to stand in long queues for permits at Gulaba and Koksar barriers. Soon permits of those going to Rohtang can be checked online through a mobile app developed by the Kullu district administration in collaboration with the National Informatics Centre (NIC), Himachal Pradesh.
QR code will be scanned The permit will be checked by scanning the QR code on the mobile phone. Earlier, counters were set up at both the barriers to check permits.
As per the new facility, tourists will not have to leave their vehicles and stand at the counter. Instead, employees posted on the barrier will come to them and check the permit from the mobile app.
Repeated use of permits disallowed This arrangement also does not allow tourists to use the same permit repeatedly.
The new system will help to get rid of long traffic jams in Gulaba and Koksar. Kullu DC Ashutosh Garg said that this app has been specifically designed for Android mobiles and will ensure transparency in work, as well as save precious time.
The exact figures of vehicles coming up to Rohtang Pass will also be known from this app.
