One killed, 3 injured as vehicle carrying ‘Ajit Samachar’ newspapers hit by rockslide on Kalka-Shimla highway

A landslide occurred in the wee hours on Monday (July 29, 2024) on the Kalka-Shimla National Highway-5, resulting in a fatal accident. Stones from the landslide fell on a vehicle carrying newspapers of ‘Ajit Samachar’ group, leading to the tragic death of one person and serious injuries to three others, including the driver.
The accident took place around 2.30 am at Datyar near Parwanoo in Solan district of Himachal Pradesh, causing significant disruption on the busy highway. The injured were promptly transported to the ESI Hospital at Parwanoo where they are currently receiving treatment. Hospital authorities have reported that the condition of the injured remains critical and they are under constant medical supervision.
In addition to the tragic loss and injuries, the landslide caused severe traffic disruptions. One lane of the highway was completely blocked by the fallen stones, leading to a long traffic jam. The traffic was restored after a few hours.
The local administration is on duty to ensure appropriate measures are taken to prevent such occurrences. The people have been urged to stay updated on road conditions and exercise caution while traveling in the area.
