During his address, the Commandant reflected on the significance of the day, sharing the historical background of Police Martyrs’ Day. He recalled the events of October 21, 1959, when Chinese soldiers ambushed CRPF personnel near Ladakh, resulting in the martyrdom of 10 police officers. Since 1960, this day has been observed annually to commemorate all police personnel who have made the ultimate sacrifice during their service, with special mention of those who lost their lives in the past year.
“This day symbolises the bravery and sacrifice of the police force, making it a special occasion for all of us,” Padam Chand said, highlighting the courage and dedication of the officers who have laid down their lives to protect the nation and its people.
In addition to the tribute ceremony, students from six local schools, including Jawahar Navodaya School, Government Senior Secondary School, Pandwa Public School, Noble School, Sarvodaya School and Himalayan School, participated in the event.

ASP Som Dutt took the opportunity to educate the children about the role of the police and their operations. He explained the police department’s functioning in detail and discussed various legal provisions commonly encountered in everyday life.
He also delivered a strong message on the importance of staying away from harmful practices such as drug abuse, urging the students to focus on education. “If you must be addicted to something, let it be books. Knowledge gained from books will secure a bright future for you,” ASP Som Dutt advised.
