NSUI, police clash in HPU campus

Students’ body demands cancellation of Vice-Chancellor’s extension

Members of National Students Union of India (NSUI), the students wing of Congress, and police personnel clashed in the Himachal Pradesh University campus on Saturday.

NSUI protesting extension to VC


NSUI members were protesting the extension granted to university Vice-Chancellor Prof Sikandar and some pending demands. The protesting members tried to enter the office of the VC and police personnel stopped them from doing so.

Unable to enter the office of the VC the NSUI members staged a dharna outside and raised slogans against the state government.

NSUI accusations

The NSUI has accused the state government of appointing Prof Sikandar as the VC and then granting him an extension. They said that Prof Sikandar was not competent and the extension granted to him should be cancelled.
NSUI president Chhatar Singh said that the university has not been able to complete the reassessment process for students of 2015 batch.

“People with RSS background being facilitated”

The NSUI president here said that people affiliated with the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) were being facilitated and being given plum posts. He said that the university administration was outsourcing the task of checking answer sheets.
