National Security Guard (NSG) commandos conducted a series of counter-terrorism mock drills at key locations in Kasol and Manali in Kullu district of Himachal Pradesh from August 27 to 28, 2024. These exercises, aimed at bolstering security measures in the region, involved the participation of the state police and civil administration.
The mock drills were meticulously planned to focus on high-risk and vulnerable targets in the popular tourist destinations of Kasol and Manali. The primary objective was to rehearse and refine procedures necessary for a coordinated response to potential terrorist incidents, ensuring that all relevant entities and responders are well-prepared in the event of an actual threat.

Over the course of two days, the NSG commandos simulated various scenarios, including counter-terror operations, hostage rescue missions and counter-improvised explosive device (IED) operations within an urban setting. These exercises were crucial in testing the readiness and effectiveness of the security forces in handling complex and high-pressure situations.
The drills were conducted in collaboration with the state police and civil authorities, highlighting the importance of inter-agency coordination in maintaining security and protecting civilians. The exercises also provided valuable insights into the execution of counter-terror strategies and the implementation of swift, decisive actions to neutralise threats.
