A new turmoil has erupted within the Congress government of Himachal Pradesh. Following the dissent among the MLAs, now the ministers also appear to have taken a stand against Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu.

The cabinet meeting on Saturday was marred by uproar, with Education Minister Rohit Thakur abruptly leaving, displaying visible anger. Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri sought the whereabouts of the minister and, upon learning of his departure, swiftly intervened to persuade his return.

Subsequently, Minister Jagat Negi also exited the meeting, though the reason for his discontent remained undisclosed. The conclusion of the cabinet meeting is awaited for further clarity on the matter. Minister Vikramaditya, already at odds with CM Sukhu, opted to skip the meeting and he was travelling to Delhi. He had skipped Friday’s scheduled meeting to visit six rebel Congress MLAs in Chandigarh. Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan too didn’t attend the meeting as he is said to have had a pre-scheduled appointment with a doctor in Chandigarh.

Disqualified Congress MLA Rajendra Rana, a prominent figure in the rebellion during Himachal’s Rajya Sabha elections, made his first public appearance on Saturday. Rana asserted that the Sukhu government was on the verge of collapse, claiming support from numerous Congress MLAs. CM Sukhu, apprehensive of their influence, has deployed a guard of six policemen around them. The CM refuted the claims, asserting that 80 per cent of the MLAs were supporting him.
