Amazon would now be selling apples and cauliflowers of Himachal Pradesh. A collector centre has been set up by Amazon in Balag of Theog.
Agreement between Amazon and APMC, Shimla
Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC), Shimla-Kinnaur, inked an agreement with Amazon. APMC, Shimla-Kinnaur, chairman Naresh Sharma told mediapersons on Sunday in Shimla.
More collection canters
Sharma informed that apart from Balag, collection centres would be opened by Amazon in other areas too to procure apples for sale online. APMC has been trying to encourage corporate entities to purchase Himachali apples and already Big Basket, Walmart, Reliance Agro Fresh, Namdhari and Safal are buying the apples.
Corporate entities selling apples offseason
Most of the corporate entities are selling the apples online from January to March/April at twice or more than the price of the apples during the season. Some corporate entities are approaching orchard owners directly to procure apples for online sale.
Plastic crates introduced for packaging apples
The APMC chairman informed that for the first time plastic crates have been introduced for packaging apples. The one-time usage crates are available at Rs 90 each — Rs 45 to be paid by orchard owners and Rs 45 by commission agent concerned.
Famous in Asia
Theog area of Shimla is famous for its cauliflowers and other vegetables. Online sales by Amazon of Theog area’s cauliflowers would prove beneficial for farmers.
