Now, enjoy ice skating in Himachal’s Kalpa even without snow
Tourists visiting Kalpa in the winter season, along with adventure sports enthusiasts, will soon have the opportunity to enjoy ice skating and roller skating in the scenic tribal region of Kinnaur. After waiting for eight years, the construction of the much-awaited ice-skating rink in Kalpa is nearing completion and is expected to be ready within a week.
The rink, being built at a cost of over Rs 49 lakh, is progressing rapidly. Once completed, it will not only provide a platform for local youth to receive training in adventure sports but also offer a unique experience for tourists from across the country and abroad, helping to further promote tourism in the region.

The construction of the rink is seen as a significant step towards enhancing tourism activities in Kalpa, which is already known for its breathtaking landscapes. By offering ice skating as a new attraction, the local tourism sector is expected to see a rise in visitors, particularly those interested in adventure sports.
Will generate employment, boost tourism
Additionally, the project is set to create new employment opportunities for the local youth, providing them with jobs in the tourism and sports training sectors.
The work on the rink initially started back in 2016 during the Congress government’s tenure. However, after several delays and setbacks, the project was left incomplete despite the initial construction being finished in 2022. When the rink was used for training, it failed to meet expectations. Following this, Horticulture Minister Jagat Singh Negi took action, and construction resumed under his guidance.
Will offer roller skating too
The rink is now being restructured using PCC (plain cement concrete) and Kota stone to ensure durability and a smoother skating experience.
The rink will offer both ice skating and roller skating, making it an all-season facility for tourists and locals alike. This is expected to attract adventure sports lovers, providing them with a rare opportunity to enjoy skating in the picturesque setting of Kalpa, even when there is no snow.
