Shimla: Popular Himachal Administrative Services (HAS) officer Oshin Sharma, who gained a massive social media following for her motivational videos and insights into civil service preparation, has found herself in the midst of controversy.
Oshin Sharma, who was working as the Tehsildar of Sandhol, was recently transferred without a new posting, raising questions about whether her outspoken online presence has contributed to the decision.
The transfer follows reported dissatisfaction from the Deputy Commissioner (DC) of Mandi, who was allegedly unhappy with her performance, citing delays in her work. This prompted the Dharampur SDM to issue a notice to Oshin Sharma, and within a day of receiving the notice, she was instructed to report to the Department of Personnel in Shimla. Since then, Oshin Sharma, known for her regular and motivational content on social media platforms, has gone silent.

Silence on social media
Oshin Sharma’s absence from her usual social media activities has raised eyebrows, particularly among her supporters and followers. Known for posting reels on Facebook and Instagram sharing motivational content across platforms, she has not released any of her own new videos since her transfer.
Her last post on Facebook featured a picture of Shimla’s view at night with a cryptic caption referencing “Matribhoomi” (birthplace). She also wished Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday on September 17, but her signature content remains missing.
Oshin Sharma’s social media influence is undeniable, with over 353K followers on Instagram, 296K on Facebook, and nearly 60K subscribers on YouTube. She often shared content aimed at students preparing for competitive exams, including civil services, and has been vocal about issues like women’s empowerment.
Her fans, many of whom praise her for her efforts, have rallied behind her. However, some trolls have taken the opportunity to criticize her, attributing her job-related issues to her focus on social media rather than official duties.
From civil aspirations to public scrutiny
Oshin Sharma’s journey to becoming a public figure has been marked by ambition and resilience. After completing her post-graduation in Chemistry from Punjab University, she attempted the UPSC Civil Services exam, narrowly missing out by a few marks. In 2019, she passed the HAS exam and was first posted as a Block Development Officer (BDO). Until her recent transfer, she was serving as Tehsildar in Sandhol.
Despite being known for her active social media presence, Oshin Sharma’s tenure in Sandhol was not without merit. She had earned praise for taking a hands-on approach to law enforcement, including night-time raids on illegal mining operations.
She also led a local cleanliness drive in which she personally took part, even stepping into drains to remove waste. However, these commendable actions have been overshadowed by allegations of inefficiency in her official duties.
