‘No less than thunderbolt’: Himachal CM Sukhu mourns death of his deputy Mukesh Agnihotri’s wife; Nadda, Anurag, Jai Ram, others too offer condolences

SHIMLA: Leaders cutting across party lines have expressed shock over the demise of Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri’s wife Simmi Agnihotri late on Friday (February 10, 2024) night. She was 56 and passed away probably due to cardiac arrest.
“उप मुख्यमंत्री मुकेश अग्निहोत्री जी की धर्मपत्नी सिम्मी अग्निहोत्री जी के निधन की सूचना एक वज्रपात से कम नहीं है । इस दुःखद समाचार से मैं बहुत व्यथित हूँ । मैं भगवान से प्रार्थना करता हूँ कि वह दिवंगत आत्मा को स्वर्ग में स्थान दे व परिवार जनों और परिजनों को इस दारुण दुःख को सहने की शक्ति दें। ॐ शान्ति। (The information on the demise is no less than a thunderbolt. Saddened by the news. Praying for strength to the bereaved family to bear the loss and may the departed soul find a place in heaven,” wrote Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu in a Facebook post.
BJP national president Jagat Prakash Nadda, party’s state president Dr Rajiv Bindal, Leader of Opposition Jai Ram Thakur, Union Minister Anurag Thakur, state in-charge Avinash Rai Khanna, co-in-charge Sanjay Tandon along with state general secretary Bihari Lal Sharma, Trilok Kapoor and several other leaders expressed shock over the demise and offered condolences to the family.
Former BJP state presidents Suresh Kashyap and Satpal Satti too prayed for peace to the departed soul and strength to Deputy Chief Minister Agnihotri and his daughter Aastha.

Aastha Agnihotri is currently pursuing higher studies in the Netherlands. It is being said that Simmi was at her house in Gondpur Jaichand in Haroli sub-division of Una district when her blood pressure started decreasing. She was being rushed to the PGI-Chandigarh, but passed away midway near Kurali in Punjab.
Mukesh Agnihotri wasn’t home at the time of the incident and he was returning to his native place after attending a cabinet meeting during the day in Shimla.
Simmi Agnihotri was employed as a professor in the Department of Personnel Administration in Himachal Pradesh University, Shimla. One of her books titled ‘Empowering Tribes, A Path to Sustainable Development’ was unveiled by Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla about three months ago. She had keen interest in social and religious work.
The mortal remains would be kept at the family’s ancestral house Aastha Kunj at native Gondpur Jaichand village in Haroli constituency of Una district till 1 pm for people to pay their last respects. The last rites would be performed at the village crematorium at 2 pm.
