MANDI: To address the longstanding traffic challenges faced by residents of Jhiri village, located on the Mandi-Kullu border, the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) has unveiled plans to construct a flyover on the Manali-Kiratpur four-lane highway. The project aims to streamline local traffic, particularly for villagers grappling with increased distances due to the construction of the four-lane highway.
Residents of Jhiri have endured significant inconvenience since the inception of the four-lane highway, with daily commutes becoming arduous and confusing. The absence of a direct route across the highway has necessitated detours of up to 2 km for some travellers, while others have voiced concerns about safety hazards posed by makeshift U-turns along the bustling highway.
The NHAI has initiated the process of drafting a comprehensive proposal for the flyover, which upon approval by the Centre, will pave the way for its construction. The proposed flyover seeks to provide a permanent solution to the traffic woes plaguing Jhiri and neighboring areas.
Local residents, including Surat Singh Thakur, Rakesh Kumar and Nek Ram, have underscored the urgent need for infrastructure upgrades to facilitate seamless travel, citing the detrimental impact on daily life and economic activities such as accessing the local vegetable market and essential services.
NHAI’s project director Varun Chari affirmed the agency’s commitment to addressing the community’s concerns, highlighting the ongoing deliberations regarding the proposed flyover. The project signifies a collaborative effort between the NHAI and local stakeholders to enhance connectivity and ease congestion along vital transportation corridors in the region.
