NEET-UG counselling postponed at last minute as opposition parties get fresh ammo to target NTA
The National Testing Agency (NTA) has postponed the counselling for the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test-Undergraduate (NEET-UG) 2024, which was initially scheduled to begin on Saturday (July 6).
The new dates for the counselling sessions will be announced soon even as opposition parties have been targeting the NTA over its functioning.
The counselling process for NEET-UG, crucial for admission to medical programs across India, has been deferred until further notice. This includes the all-India quota (AIQ) seat counselling, which was set to start today.
The Medical Counselling Committee (MCC) and the AYUSH Admissions Central Counselling Committee (AACCC) have yet to provide an update on the rescheduled dates for NEET-UG counselling.
The Supreme Court is scheduled to hear NEET-related pleas on July 8, although it had previously declined requests to delay the NEET-UG counselling.
The NEET-UG counselling is conducted in multiple rounds, including stray vacancy and mop-up rounds. Students who have qualified for the medical entrance test will be able to register for the counselling process once it resumes.
Last year, the first round of NEET-UG counselling registration began on July 20. This year’s counselling under the 15% AIQ includes seats at government colleges, central and deemed universities, seats reserved for children of Insured Persons (IP quota) in Employees’ State Insurance Corporation (ESIC) medical colleges and seats available at the Armed Forces Medical College (AFMC) Pune.
Further updates on the NEET-UG counselling schedule are awaited from the respective counselling committees.
