NEET-UG 2024: After SC order, NTA publishes centre-wise exam results

NEET ug scam NTA SUPREME COURT

Following a Supreme Court directive, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has put out the centre and city-wise results for the NEET-UG 2024 medical entrance exam, the announcement coming amid ongoing scrutiny over alleged irregularities in the exam, including claims of a paper leak.

The NEET-UG results were declared on June 5. However, in response to numerous petitions alleging irregularities, the Supreme Court ordered the results to be republished in a manner that conceals the identities of the candidates.

The step aims to determine if students from centres under suspicion scored disproportionately higher marks compared to those from other centres. The NEET-UG 2024 exam took place on May 5 across 4,750 centres in 571 cities, including 14 international locations, with participation from over 24 lakh candidates.

The Supreme Court’s intervention includes evaluating whether to cancel the exam, order a re-test or initiate a court-monitored investigation into the alleged malpractices. The next hearing is scheduled for July 22 where the court will continue to deliberate on these petitions.

At a hearing on July 18, the Supreme Court had examined several petitions calling for a re-test or cancellation of the exam. The top court expressed skepticism over the Centre and the National Testing Agency’s (NTA) stance that the paper leak occurred only 45 minutes before the exam started in certain centres.

Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud, leading the bench, questioned whether all 180 questions could realistically be solved within such a short timeframe, considering the exam commenced at 10.15 am. Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing the NTA, responded that a group of seven individuals divided the questions among themselves to expedite the process.
