NCC cadet from Mandi selected for Delhi Republic Day parade, chosen after intense grilling

MANDI: National Cadet Corps (NCC) Air Wing Cadet Kartik Thakur from Mandi is set to participate in the Republic Day parade in Delhi on January 26, representing the Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh and Chandigarh NCC Directorate.
Flight Commander (Associate NCC Officer) Flying Officer Chaman Lal Kranti Singh of NCC Air Wing in Mandi informed this in a press statement.

Chaman Lal said that Kartik, a senior division NCC Air Wing trainee in his third year at Vallabh Government College in Mandi and hailing from nearby Behna Tikar village, has been chosen as the best cadet in the air wing category. His exceptional performance in written exams, firing, drill tests, ADG Squad handling and interviews led to his selection as the best cadet.

Apart from participating in the Republic Day Camp in Delhi, Kartik will also take part in the Prime Minister’s rally at General Carriappa Ground in Delhi, according to Chaman Lal. He emphasised that Republic Day Camp is a prestigious event offering cadets opportunities to interact with senior military officers and attend high tea parties other than showcasing unity in diversity within the Indian democracy.

Chaman Lal stressed its crucial role in shaping the personalities of cadets involved in the Republic Day Camp. In the past, cadets from NCC Air Wing in Mandi, such as Pankaj Kumar, Ajay Kumar, Shilpa, Abhishek, Vinay Thakur, Angad Singh and Vikas Thakur have also been part of the Republic Day parade.

Former cadets Senior Under Officer Digvijay Singh, Senior Under Officer Ajay Kumar, Cadet Under Officer Gopal Thakur and Cadet Warrant Officer Vikas Thakur have represented India in youth exchange programmes in Russia, Kazakhstan, Vietnam and Bangladesh.
