In a significant move, all the district courts in Kangra convened the National Lok Adalat on Saturday, December 9, 2023. The event addressed a diverse range of cases, including pre-litigation matters, cases under the N.I. Act, debt recovery, labor disputes, essential services-related issues (such as electricity and water billing), Section 125 of the CrPC matters, compoundable criminal cases, motor accidents, cases under the jurisdiction of the Claims Tribunal, matrimonial disputes, land acquisition cases, revenue matters, and various civil cases, both pending and pre-litigation, totaling 9,027 cases.
During the National Lok Adalat, 3,272 cases were amicably settled through mutual agreements, resulting in the collection of ₹10,29,99,631 in fines and compensations. The event aimed at providing expeditious justice and resolving a wide spectrum of legal disputes, showcasing the effectiveness of alternative dispute resolution mechanisms. The initiative was led by the Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority (DLSA) in Kangra, based in Dharamshala.
