NASA 3D-prints its first simulated Mars surface habitat

NASA’s first simulated Mars surface habitat, called the Mars Dune Alpha, was 3D printed by advanced construction technologies firm ICON for its Crew Health and Performance Exploration Analog (CHAPEA). ICON 3D-printed the 1,700 square feet habitat with lavacrete. The habitat features four private crew quarters, dedicated workstations, dedicated medical station and common lounge areas.
