SHIMLA: The much-awaited cabinet expansion of the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu government in Himachal Pradesh will take place at 4.45 pm on Tuesday (December 12, 2023). Preparations for this have been going on at Raj Bhavan.
Though Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla is away to Delhi, it has been learnt that the government has sent a helicopter to bring him back. The Governor has a programme to attend in Delhi at 12 noon and he is expected to reach Shimla around 4 pm. After this, the oath-taking ceremony can take place around 4.45 pm.
Prior to the swearing-in ceremony, Chief Minister Sukhu has scheduled a meeting of his cabinet ministers at the Secretariat 12 noon to formally inform his ministerial colleagues about the expansion.
As reported by The Newz Radar, two new ministers—most probably Rajesh Dharmani from Ghumarwin in Bilaspur district and Yadvinder Goma from Jaisinghpur Assembly seat in Kangra—are likely to join the cabinet. After the induction of the two new ministers, one berth will still be vacant in the state cabinet, which can have a maximum 10 ministers, including the Chief Minister and the Deputy Chief Minister.
With Goma’s induction, Kangra, a politically significant district from where the Congress has won 10 seats (of the total 15 in the district), will get its second minister. The first is Jawali MLA Chander Kumar, an OBC leader who holds the agriculture portfolio.
