Monsoon gets active in Himachal after 3 weeks, orange alert issued for heavy rain in 2 districts

SHIMLA: As the monsoon is becoming active again in Himachal Pradesh, the Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an orange alert of heavy rain during the next few hours in Solan and Sirmaur districts.

During this period, there may be heavy rain in Kasauli, Baddi and Nalagarh. An orange alert has been issued for any district in the state after a gap of three weeks.

The IMD has issued a yellow alert for heavy rain in Chamba, Kangra, Kullu, Mandi, Una, Bilaspur, Kinnaur and Shimla districts.

There will be rain or bad weather throughout the day in most parts of the state on Friday (September 15, 2023). On Saturday as well, there may be rain in medium-altitude areas while there is a possibility of less rain in higher altitude and plain areas.Dharamshala has received maximum rainfall of 71.4 mm during the last 24 hours; 41.2 mm of rain was recorded in Bharmour of Chamba, 47.8 mm in Palampur, 40 mm in Manali and 29.6 mm in Nahan.

The IMD’s warning has increased the concerns of those people whose houses have been damaged by heavy rain over the past few days or whose homes are in danger. It is cloudy in Shimla since this morning.Monsoon has been weak in the state since August 25. During this period, there has been light rain only in some areas. But now the monsoon is becoming active again. There is no sign of it going away yet. During the monsoon from June 1 to September 13, the state received 22 per cent more rainfall than normal. Solan has received maximum rainfall of 78 per cent, Shimla has received 72 per cent and Bilaspur has also received 63 per cent more rainfall than normal.

At the same time, there was 73 per cent less rainfall than normal in September. Normally there is 68.6 mm rainfall in September, but this time only 18.4 mm rainfall was recorded.
