The monsoon is expected to pick up pace in Himachal Pradesh starting Sunday (June 30, 2024), with heavy rain forecasted from June 30 to July 2. A yellow alert has been issued for the period from July 3 to 5.
On Saturday, Mandi and Shimla experienced drizzle while other areas remained cloudy with occasional sunshine. The maximum temperatures were recorded 2 degrees Celsius above normal, with Una setting at 37°C and Bilaspur at 36°C.
In Shimla, Saturday morning started cloudy, but the afternoon saw some sunshine.
The Meteorological Centre, Shimla, has predicted that monsoon will intensify across the state from Sunday. According to Director Surinder Pal, rain will spread to all areas of the state within two days, with heavy rains expected to increase difficulties.
In hilly regions, roads are closed due to landslides and flooding. The Meteorological Department has issued an orange alert for heavy rains over the next four days in 18 states and union territories in North West and East India, including Delhi. Light circulation conditions persist at the upper level of north-east Rajasthan, and eastern and north-western UP.
