Dharamshala: The Shining Star Awards 2024, organized by Himachal’s English news network, The Newz Radar, saw the honorable presence of Tibetan monk Jamyang, who has profoundly changed the lives of slum children. Jamyang attended the event with around ten of his students, all of whom are now leading better lives thanks to his efforts. Each of these students was honored on stage.
In a clear demonstration of his humility, Jamyang sat among the children in the crowd, despite being invited as a special guest. Recognizing his modesty, TNR’s political editor went into the audience to bring the monk to the front row of guests.
Jamyang came to McLeodganj in pursuit of his spiritual journey. However, his life took a significant turn when he saw slum children eating food from a dustbin. This poignant moment inspired him to start working for their welfare. With the support of like-minded individuals, he established the charitable trust Tong-Len. Currently, a large hostel operates in the region, providing education and shelter to around 300 slum children.
