Mandi: Avninder Singh, a septuagenarian attending Prime Minister Modi’s rally on Friday, was moved to tears when Modi mentioned his name from the stage. Singh said it was the most significant day of his life.
During his speech, Modi showcased his deep connection with the region by naming of his other old party colleagues also – Santokh Singh, Gurnam Singh, and RK Raju. This gesture highlighted his long-standing ties and political maturity.
Dilip Singh, grandson of the late Santokh Singh, described the day as unforgettable. He noted that although his grandfather is no longer alive, Modi’s remembrance has immortalized him.
Prime Minister Modi reminisced about his early days spent with these prominent BJP figures from the region. He fondly recalled organizing rallies with them and their dedication to the party’s cause.
Modi’s association with Himachal Pradesh dates back to the 1990s when he was in charge of Himachal and Haryana. His visits to Mandi are often filled with cherished memories of the place. On a previous visit, he spoke about Mandi’s delicious cuisine, which led to Congress mocking him for discussing local delicacies like Sepu Badi, Badana, and Jhol instead of substantial contributions to the area.
On Friday, as Modi reminisced about his old companions, their relatives in the audience felt immense pride. Anupama Singh, daughter of Dr. Raju, called it a historic day, mentioning that her father would have attended if his health permitted.
Manmohan Singh, son of Gurnam Singh, expressed his pride, stating that it reassured him the party remembers those who dedicated their lives to it. Although his father wished to attend, he watched Modi’s speech on TV due to the large crowd.
