Minister Harshwardhan aspired to be doctor, but fell short by 2 marks in MBBS entrance exam

TNR Shining Star Awards-Nahan: Tells students to give 100% in whichever field they choose to build their career

Himachal Pradesh Industries Minister Harshwardhan Chauhan aspired to be a doctor but fell short by two marks in the MBBS entrance test.

The revelation was made by the six-term Shillai MLA at TNR Shining Star Awards in Nahan on Thursday (July 4, 2024) as he addressed hundreds of meritorious students as the Chief Guest. “If not for two marks, I would have been a doctor.

But I didn’t get discouraged and moved on in life. Here I am today before you,” said the minister, encouraging students not to get disheartened if they couldn’t achieve a particular goal. He said they must give 100 per cent in whichever field they choose to build their career.

Born on September 14, 1964, at Nahan in Sirmaur district, Harshwardhan’s father late Guman Singh Chauhan too was a minister in the Himachal government.

Harshwardhan studied at St Edward’s School in Shimla and did his BA-LLB from the Himachal Pradesh University (Shimla). He was associated with the NSUI since college days and held various posts in the Congress over the years. He was first elected to the Assembly in 1993 and re-elected in 1998, 2003, 2007, 2017 and 2022.

Nearly 400 meritorious students were felicitated at the prestigious TNR Shining Star Awards in Nahan, the event having elicited massive response from Class 10 and Class 12 pupils who recently cleared their board examination scoring 85 per cent or higher marks. Though the registrations for the event were to begin at 9 am, students started arriving early morning and long queues were seen outside the venue — SFDA Hall (opposite Zila Parishad Office) in Nahan.

The Newz Radar, the trusted and only English digital news network based in Himachal Pradesh, has so far organised the Shining Star Awards in Kangra, Chamba, Kullu, Mandi, Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur and Nahan. Team TNR is now heading to Solan for its next episode on July 6 in which Chief Parliamentary Secretary Sanjay Awasthy, who is an MLA from Arki, will be the Chief Guest.

The TNR Shining Star Awards were instituted in 2023 to celebrate the extraordinary academic achievements of the young brains, among them several from ordinary backgrounds.

The aim behind organising the Shining Star Awards is to connect with the bright minds and foster a constructive society, says Sunil Chadha, Executive Editor at The Newz Radar. He avers that it’s a must to honour students, their parents and teachers who have worked hard for years to achieve such academic milestones.

At the awards function in Una on June 26 (2024), Himachal Pradesh Deputy Chief Minister Mukesh Agnihotri had lauded Team Newz Radar for its innovative social initiative Shining Star Awards.

As the Chief Guest, Mukesh Agnihotri had praised TNR Political Editor S Gopal Puri and Executive Editor Sunil Chadha, emphasising their remarkable accomplishments in journalism at a young age and their efforts to drive social change through the Shining Star Awards.
