SHIMLA: The Queen of Hills Shimla will witness a unique spectacle in the last week of June as Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, members of his Cabinet, Leader of Opposition and ex-CM Jai Ram Thakur and High Court judges will take to the cricket ground.
The Him Sports and Cultural Association is organising the ‘Sadbhavna Cricket Cup’ tournament on June 25, where teams representing the Governor, Chief Minister, High Court judges and journalists will showcase their cricketing prowess.
At a press conference in Shimla, principal media adviser to Sukhu Naresh Chauhan said the matches were being held as a symbolic gesture to encourage the youth to stay away from drugs, emphasising that sports was an effective means to achieve this goal. As a result, political personalities from the state will come together and deliver the message of playing sports, he said.
Chauhan said the tournament would feature four teams. He said the Governor’s team would be one of the participants while Chief Minister Sukhu would lead his own team, comprising members of his Cabinet as well as the Leader of Opposition Jai Ram. The third team will be led by the Chief Justice of the Himachal High Court and the fourth team will consist of journalists.
The matches are scheduled to begin at 10 am on June 25 with the inauguration ceremony conducted by the Speaker of the Legislative Assembly, Kuldeep Singh Pathania. The closing ceremony will witness the presence of renowned international women’s cricketer, Renuka Thakur.
