DHARAMSHALA: Stupendous response was witnessed to the TNR Shining Star Awards 2024, the second edition of which kicked off in Dharamshala on Tuesday (May 21, 2024).
About 400 meritorious Class X and XII students of around 50 schools of Kangra district who have secured 85 per cent and above marks in their board examination were awarded in the function, which was organised at the auditorium of the Government Degree College in Dharamshala. The eligible students were to report at the college at 9 am, but long queues were witnessed since early morning. The students, both from private and government schools, were accompanied by their parents and teachers.
Former IAS officer JM Pathania, who is still an adviser to the Union Public Service Examination, presented the awards to the students.
Addressing the enthusiastic gathering, Pathania exhorted the young minds to strive tirelessly till they achieved their goal, asking them to follow the path of honesty and never to adopt corrupt means. Pathania himself had taken voluntarily retirement from service to lead a crusade against corruption. Lobsang Jamyang, a monk who escaped from Tibet and arrived in Dharamsala in 1997 and is credited with helping children living in slums rise in their lives through education, too presented the awards.
After honouring the bright students of Kangra, The Newz Radar will, as its social responsibility, take the awards function to other districts of the state. The Newz Radar, the only English digital news network of Himachal Pradesh, had organised the first edition of the Shining Star Awards across several districts of the state in 2023, earning much applause from various quarters.
“This is the second edition of the Shining Star Awards. We organised such events last year too. The motive is to connect with young brains and boost their morale so that they can play a constructive role in building the society,” said Abhinav Sharma, Human Resource head at The Newz Radar.
