SHIMLA: Anjana Thakur, a resident of Karsog in Mandi district of Himachal Pradesh whose one arm had to be amputated following an accident, has joined as Assistant Professor (Botany) at Rajiv Gandhi Degree College in Kotshera, Shimla.
Having learnt to write with her left hand after her right arm was amputated after an accident, she cleared the tough CSIR-JRF exam in her first attempt after completing BSc and MSc in first division. She is currently doing PhD in Botany from Himachal Pradesh University. She is also a member of Umang Foundation.
Recently, Himachal Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla and his wife Janaki Shukla had felicitated her at Raj Bhavan. Anjana, belonging to a BPL family of Karsog, not only overcame her disability but also proved that if daughters are determined, they can reach any height. She is a great inspiration for all those people who give up at the slightest of difficulties. The Newz Radar has recently presented a special report on the struggle-filled journey of this courageous daughter.
Anjana’s journey to success was marked by unwavering determination and the support of her family, especially her elder brother Gangesh Kumar who sacrificed his own education to ensure his sister’s dreams could be realised.
The story of her remarkable journey began in 2016 during her second year of BSc studies at Karsog college when she suffered a severe electric shock, resulting in a traumatic injury that led to the amputation of her right arm. This life-altering accident posed significant challenges, but Anjana’s spirit remained unbroken.
During her recovery at IGMC hospital in Shimla and later at PGI-Chandigarh, Anjana made a profound commitment to her dreams. She learnt to write with her left hand while still in the hospital, displaying her unyielding determination. Once discharged, she re-enrolled in college and successfully completed her BSc with excellent marks.
Gangesh sacrificed his own education to support his sister’s pursuit of academic excellence. To contribute to the family’s financial well-being, he ventured into painting.
Anjana’s educational journey continued as she enrolled in MSc (Botany) at Himachal Pradesh University, and her determination grew stronger. She also achieved a significant milestone by passing the Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) examination conducted by the Council of Scientific and Industrial Research (CSIR) in her first attempt.
