SHIMLA: As the rain and snowfall subsided in the state, Himachal Pradesh is now in the clutches of an intensifying cold wave. Keylong, Kalpa and Samdo in tribal districts of Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti have witnessed sub-zero temperatures for the third consecutive night, with minimum temperatures plummeting to chilling levels.
On Tuesday night, Keylong recorded a bone-chilling minus 5.2 degrees Celsius, while Samdo registered minus 2.7 degrees Celsius and Kalpa experienced minus 0.8 degrees Celsius. The aftermath of rain and snowfall has led to increased cold in the morning and evening in Shimla, Una, Solan, Kangra and other parts of the state.
In the higher-altitude areas, fog has begun to blanket the roads during the night, posing challenges to vehicular movement due to escalating slipperiness. The drop in temperatures, especially in the mountainous regions, is indicative of the onset of winter and its impact on daily life.
Wednesday brought sunshine to all areas of the state, including capital Shimla, providing some relief from the biting cold. Weather forecasts suggest clear conditions prevailing in the state until December 10. However, residents and travellers are advised to brace themselves as there are anticipated chances of renewed rain and snowfall from December 11 onwards.
The minimum temperatures on Tuesday stood as: Reckong Peo at 1.7 degrees Celsius, Narkanda at 3.2 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar at 2.2 degrees Celsius, Kufri at 4.7 degrees Celsius, Mandi at 1.7 degrees Celsius, Shimla at 7 degrees Celsius, Sundernagar at 2.6 degrees Celsius, Solan at 5.3 degrees Celsius, Una at 6 degrees Celsius, Kangra at 5.3 degrees Celsius and Dharamshala at a relatively milder 9.2 degrees Celsius.
