MANDI: The Himachal Pradesh Education Department has taken swift action against a teacher who allegedly arrived drunk at the Government Primary School at Sobli in Jainshla panchayat of Seraj constituency in Mandi district.
Following an investigation revealing a pattern of such behaviour, the department suspended the teacher, who had previously been warned by the school management committee (SMC). The teacher, who has since apologised, now faces suspension. The teacher reportedly fell asleep on his chair in the classroom and the parents of the students shot a video, which has gone viral on social media. The teacher was shifted to Sajaiupiploo in Dharampur sun-division after the viral videos.
Deputy Education Officer Vijay Kumar confirmed that upon receiving information about the incident, the department promptly initiated proceedings, starting with seeking a report from the education section concerned in Bagsyad. Subsequently, the department suspended the teacher.
The incident highlights concerns over alcohol abuse among teachers and other government employees when they report on duty.
The recent video depicting the intoxicated teacher arriving in class has circulated widely, sparking outrage among people and prompting calls for decisive action.
