MANDI: On World Philosophy Day, the Department of History at Sardar Patel University (SPU) Mandi organised a national seminar funded by the Ministry of Education, Government of India.
The aim was to delve into the core values ingrained in Indian culture and their significance in national reconstruction. Professor Anupama Singh, Pro Vice-Chancellor at SPU, graced the event as the chief guest, which was conducted by postgraduate third-year student Geeta.
During her address, Professor Anupama underscored that the essence of India lies in its culture, with the Vedas serving as the foundational source. She highlighted that even today, the vibrant expressions of Vedic lifestyle permeate society, and the world recognizes Indian culture and civilization as among the oldest.
Distinguished speakers from the education sector participated in the one-day event, sharing their valuable insights. Krishna Mohan Pandey, joint secretary at the Sanskrit Department, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, served as the main speaker, focusing on the philosophical principles in Indian culture.
Professor Om Prakash Sharma, retired chairman of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Solan, delved into the ethical values inherent in Indian culture. Chet Ram Garg, Director of the Institute of Advanced Studies, presented the fundamental values in Indian culture.
Professor Bhagchand Chauhan, from the Department of Physical Sciences at Himachal Pradesh Central University, Dharamshala, discussed education and culture in Indian society. Karam Singh, former secretary of Himachal Pradesh Arts, Culture and Language Academy in Shimla, focused on national thought within Indian culture.
Pawan Chand, Administrator, Student Welfare; Assistant Professor Monica, seminar organiser secretary Rajesh Sharma, guest professors Krishna Chand, Navpreet Kaur, Dushma Kumari and Geeta Kumari, along with Jatinder, vice-president of the History Society, Punit Bharti, Vice President of the History Department, and Lok Prashasan Department, including other research scholars and students, were in attendance.
Professor Rajesh Kumar Sharma, Administrator of Mahavidyalaya Vikas Parishad, also graced the occasion as a special guest. Rakesh Kumar Sharma, the coordinator and in-charge of the History Department, introduced the scholars and outlined the objectives of the national seminar.
