kuwait fire tragedy mandi dead

MANDI: Dhandev, a resident of Badsu village in Balh subdivision of Himachal Pradesh’s Mandi district, who was missing in Kuwait for the past few weeks was found to have died of a heart attack on June 22.

Back home in Mandi, his family had approached Mandi MP Kangana Ranaut for help to trace Dhanadev. The family didn’t receive any information about him due to communication issues. During this period, a fire broke out in a building that housed labourers in Kuwait and left 49 persons, mostly Indians, dead, which added to the confusion.

When the family couldn’t reach Dhandev, they sought assistance from the Mandi district administration, the state government, MLA Inder Singh Gandhi and MP Kangana Ranaut.

The Indian Embassy in Kuwait investigated the matter and got to know that Dhandev had died of a heart attack on June 22. After completing all necessary formalities, arrangements were made to send his body to India.

After 26 days, Dhandev’s body was flown from Kuwait to Delhi and his family is now transporting it home by road. The body is expected to reach his home late Thursday night, with the last rites scheduled for Friday.

Dhandev’s cousin Tek Chand, brother-in-law Kailash and uncle Hansraj stated that two family members had gone to bring the body from Delhi.

The family is devastated by the tragic loss as Dhandev is survived by his wife, two daughters, a son and aged mother. The sole breadwinner of his family, he had recently lost his father, the period when he last visited his village.

Working as a motor mechanic in Kuwait for the last seven years, Dhanadev reportedly went missing after the fire incident led to the evacuation of the residential building where he was living.
