Cancellation of doctors’ deputations creates healthcare crisis, invites criticism
The Newz Radar
Mandi: The cancellation of doctors’ deputations has thrown the district’s Nagwain Hospital into chaos, leaving the lone medical officer to shoulder the burden of managing the OPD and providing critical healthcare services.
This decision, deemed unnecessary by many, has escalated into a crisis for the people, exacerbating the existing strain on government hospitals.
Kushal Singh Thakur, a prominent BJP leader, has criticized the government and healthcare department for their handling of the situation. The shortage of doctors in government hospitals has reached a critical point, with patients facing long waits for treatment and essential services like emergency care and night shifts unavailable.
Brigadier Kushal Thakur, also a Lok Sabha by-election candidate for the Mandi parliamentary constituency, has highlighted the alarming situation at Nagwain Civil Hospital.
Situated along the Kiratpur-Manali NH, the hospital plays a vital role in attending to accidents along the highway. Despite its significance, the hospital is severely understaffed, with only two out of six doctor positions filled. Currently both doctors are on vacation leaving the medical officer to shoulder all the responsibility. Urgent action is needed to fill the vacant doctor positions and restore essential services at Nagwain Hospital, he said.
While the hospital’s capacity is already stretched thin, patients from Solan valley, Kullu district, Banjar, and Bali Chowki areas are adding to the overcrowding.
As the situation intensifies, senior officials have been briefed, but urgent measures are needed to address the doctor shortage and alleviate the strain on Nagwain Hospital’s healthcare services.
