Mandi: In a commendable display of leadership and commitment, Mandi Deputy Commissioner Apoorv Devgan took it upon himself to clean the office premises during the ‘Cleanliness is Service’ programme held on Tuesday. The event, which revolved around the theme “Natural Cleanliness, Cultural Cleanliness”, aimed to encourage citizens to integrate cleanliness into their daily lives.
Devgan personally led the cleanliness drive, broom in hand, setting an inspiring example for everyone present. The Deputy Commissioner’s hands-on involvement sent a powerful message: no job is too small when it comes to community welfare. His active participation in the labour-intensive task resonated with the gathered officials, employees and sanitation workers.
Following the cleanup, Devgan administered a cleanliness oath to all those present, urging them to not only keep their surroundings clean but also adopt cleanliness as a regular habit. “We need to change our mindset toward cleanliness and take inspiration from Mahatma Gandhi, who envisioned a clean and self-reliant India,” said Devgan during his address.

Call for collective responsibility
Devgan emphasised the need for everyone to take responsibility for cleanliness, starting with themselves, their homes and their workplaces. “Cleanliness should not be seen as the job of sanitation workers alone; it’s a shared responsibility. If each of us makes an effort, we can create a lasting impact,” he remarked.
He further encouraged attendees to take the cleanliness message to 100 individuals in their communities and dedicate two hours each week, or 100 hours annually, to cleanliness efforts. This, he said, would contribute significantly to keeping neighbourhoods and eventually the nation clean.

Engagement with sanitation workers
After the drive, the Deputy Commissioner interacted with sanitation workers at the DRDA auditorium, appreciating their hard work and presenting them with sanitation kits. He also listened to their concerns and assured them of the administration’s continued support. A medical camp was organized by doctors from the Zonal Hospital to check the health of sanitation workers, recognising the physically demanding nature of their work.
The event saw wide participation from various district officials, including ADM Madan Kumar and District Development Officer ZC Pathak, along with employees from different departments. Their presence highlighted the shared commitment to making cleanliness a community-wide effort.
