Mandatory filing of property tax returns for junior revenue officers on cards

Shimla | TNR

Junior revenue officers may now have to mandatorily file property taxes online. Discussions in this direction began at state secretariat on Wednesday.

Amendments to existing rules are also being made before the actual implementation of the decision.

Once implemented, tehsildars, naib tehsildars, kanungos and patwaris will also have to file returns. At present only IAS and IFS officers have to provide annual information about their movable and immovable assets.

Step being considered to stem corruption

This decision is primarily being taken to stem corruption which has become rampant in the department.

Some revenue officers in the department have been arrested by the vigilance for taking bribes.

In fact, many of them have been caught red-handed every year by the vigilance department.

This has tarnished the image of the revenue department and it has been alleged that officers ask for bribes in the name of taxation, registration etc.

Revenue department to get 1200 patwaris.

The Himachal revenue department will soon get 1200 patwaris.

The training of these recruits has begun and will be completed by September 20, thus ending their shortage in the state.

Presently many of them have to look after at least two circles and this often hampers smooth government operations which also affects the common man.
