Kuala Lumpur: Malaysia has summoned China’s ambassador to protest against the “encroachment” of Chinese vessels in the country’s Exclusive Economic Zone in the disputed South China Sea.
“Malaysia’s consistent position and actions are based on international law, in defence of our…sovereign rights in our waters,” Foreign Ministry said. The ministry didn’t say when the vessels were detected in Malaysian waters.
Chinese embassy did not respond immediately
The Chinese embassy in Kuala Lumpur did not immediately respond to a request for comment. Last week, media reported that a Chinese survey vessel was in Malaysian waters off the coast of Sabah, near a vessel commissioned by Malaysian state energy firm Petronas.
