Shimla: Patients dependent on government hospitals in Himachal Pradesh are in trouble due to the stoppage of work by government-authorised Krsnaa Diagnostics, a medical laboratory company, performing a variety of pathology tests and X-rays.

Work by the company was halted from Wednesday due to the failure of the National Health Mission (NHM) to clear its pending payments.

The government has defaulted on payments to the company for the past several months and it is reported that a Rs 50 crore payment is pending as of now.

Sources in the government medical department informed TNR that letters have been written to the NHM by the company for the releasing of the payment but to no avail.

Payment has been made to the company till November for its work in two districts of the state, Kinnaur and Lahaul Spiti.

Indira Gandhi Medical College and Hospital and Ripon Hospital in Shimla have also been impacted due to the stoppage of work by Krsnaa Diagnostics. At the IGMC the timings for taking samples for tests from patients has been increased till 4 pm. However, despite the two-hour extension patients did face difficulties. Earlier, post 2 pm the pathology tests were conducted by the private medical laboratory.

IGMC medical superintendent Dr Rahul Rao said that the government has been apprised of the situation post the decision taken by Krsnaa Diagnostics to stop work.

The queues of patients asked to get pathology tests done at the Ripon Hospital have been getting longer since Wednesday morning. The patients coming from outside Shimla are facing more difficulty due to the long wait in the absence of Krsnaa Diagnostics’ facilities.

Company management said that payment has been pending for the past eight months due to which it was getting difficult to get work done.
