MANDI: Rahul Raina, a talented youth of Tattapani in Karsog sub-division of Mandi district in Himachal Pradesh, has claimed the top spot in a national water adventure sports competition held in Tattapani water sports park on Friday (June 14, 2024).
Rahul’s stupendous achievement has helped him clinch a place in Asian Open School Invitational Aquatic Championship (AOSI BANGKOK 2024) to be held in Bangkok in August this year.
The event, being organised by the Wake Board Water Ski Federation of India, awarded Rahul a certificate of excellence, further elevating Tattapani’s reputation in the realm of water sports.
The competition was earlier held for the first time near Nahan, which saw participation from water sports enthusiasts across the country. Rahul then stood out with his exceptional skills, emerging victorious in various stages of the competition.
This achievement is particularly noteworthy considering Rahul’s history of bravery, having previously saved multiple lives from the turbulent waves of Sutlej river. Rahul has not only showcased his prowess in water sports but has also been dedicated to social service. His commendable courage and dedication have earned him a respected place in his community.
Rahul has received advanced training in several thrilling water sports abroad and is now an inspiring figure for young people looking to explore self-employment opportunities through sports.
Prem Raina, Rahul’s father, who is a leading entrepreneur of Tattapani and the man behind initiating water adventure sport in Himachal Pradesh, while talking to TNR, shared that the competition drew participants from various parts of the country, providing Rahul with a valuable platform to gain experience and demonstrate his talent. Rahul’s first-place finish earned him accolades from the Federation’s officials, who commended his performance.
“It is expected that Rahul will continue to excel and showcase his abilities in future competitions, bringing more accolades to Tattapani and inspiring many young athletes along the way,” shared the proud father.
Rahul is a “Gaurav Puraskar” awardee, the honour conferred upon him in 2021 for his act of bravery at the age of 16 when he saved a drowning man from the strong currents of the Sutlej. He swam 80 metres in the gushing river and saved the man by bringing him out.
