Dharamshala: Kangra district Deputy Commissioner Hemraj Bairwa has emphasized the need for strict implementation of the Model Code of Conduct to ensure fair Lok Sabha Elections 2024.
He announced that all government buildings and premises must remove any political propaganda material within 24 hours, while public spaces like bus stands, check-posts, and walls must be cleared within 48 hours.
Additionally, political photos on government websites and social media platforms will be promptly removed. Written permission is required for any political material displayed in private premises.
Bairwa instructed officials to compile a list of such materials in their respective departments and premises immediately. He also stated that during the Model Code of Conduct period, election-related meetings and rallies will be prohibited in government rest houses and other premises. Moreover, individuals will not be allotted rooms in rest houses for more than 48 hours.
Regarding preparations for the elections, Bairwa mentioned that 1642 polling booths will be established across the 15 assembly segments in Kangra district, with 118 critical polling stations. The district has a total of 1,328,768 voters, including 679,472 male and 649,292 female voters. There are also 10,441 new voters aged 18-19 and 9,938 differently-abled voters, along with 37,505 senior voters aged 80 and above.
Nodal officers have been appointed for various election-related tasks, including law and order, security, transportation, and welfare of differently-abled voters. Bairwa assured proper arrangements for strong rooms and counting centers. He also mentioned the formation of expenditure monitoring committees to oversee the spending of political parties and candidates.
To ensure free and fair voting, the Election Commission has launched the mobile app “C-Vigil,” allowing citizens to report any violations of the Model Code of Conduct.
