Bollywood actress and newly elected BJP MP from Mandi in Himachal Pradesh, Kangana Ranaut, has sold her lavish bungalow in the upscale Pali Hill area of Bandra in Mumbai for Rs 32 crore. The property, which spans 3,075 square feet and includes a parking space of 565 square feet, was purchased by Kangana in September 2017 for Rs 20 crore.
The sale transaction was officially registered on September 5, 2024, with a stamp duty payment of Rs 1.92 crore and a registration fee of Rs 30,000. The new owner of the bungalow is Shweta Bathija, a partner at Kamalini Holdings and a resident of Coimbatore in Tamil Nadu. The sale comes after Kangana declared her total assets worth over Rs 91 crore in May 2024 when she filed nomination for the Lok Sabha elections. These included Rs 28.7 crore in movable assets and Rs 62.9 crore in immovable assets.
Speculations and Disputes Surrounding the Property
There had been earlier speculation that Kangana was looking to sell the bungalow for Rs 40 crore, though she has remained silent on the matter. The property gained attention in 2020 when the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) raised concerns over alleged illegal constructions and partially demolished parts of the bungalow. Shiv Sena (UBT) chief Uddhav Thackeray was the Maharashtra Chief Minister then under a coalition government. Kangana had had a bitter face-off with the Uddhav Thackeray regime then over the demolition.

However, the Bombay High Court intervened with a stay order, halting further demolition. In response to the BMC’s actions, Kangana filed a case seeking Rs 2 crore in compensation. In a surprising move, she later withdrew the demand in May 2023, bringing an end to the legal dispute.
Sale amid controversy over ‘Emergency’
While Kangana’s real estate dealings have drawn interest, she continues to focus on her dual roles as an actress and politician. She is currently directing and starring in the upcoming film ‘Emergency’, a political drama based on the events of the 1975 Emergency in India.
The film’s release has been put on hold following certain controversies related to certain scenes. Alongside her film career, Kangana remains active in her political responsibilities as the BJP MP from Mandi.
