Bollywood actor-turned-politician Kangana Ranaut, the newly elected MP from Mandi constituency in Himachal Pradesh, delivered her maiden speech in Parliament on Thursday (July 25, 2024). In her address, she brought attention to the challenges faced by the tribal areas within her constituency.
Kangana Ranaut began her speech by expressing gratitude to the Lok Sabha Speaker for allowing her the opportunity to speak during the crucial hours of the Parliament’s monsoon session.
She voiced concerns about the erosion of traditional art forms, including music, attire and culture, in the tribal regions of Kinnaur, Lahaul-Spiti and Bharmour due to modernisation. She questioned the Union government on the measures being taken to preserve the rich tribal heritage of Himachal Pradesh.
Kangana Ranaut secured the Mandi seat with 5,37,022 votes, defeating Congress candidate and Himachal Pradesh PWD Minister Vikramaditya Singh by a margin of 74,755 votes. Following her victory, the 37-year-old actor had shared a video on her official X page, showing her signing official documents with the caption, “Mandi ki sansad.”
In a heartfelt Instagram post, shared just hours earlier, the four-time National Award winner expressed her gratitude to the people of Mandi for their support. “Heartfelt gratitude to all the people of Mandi for this love and trust… This victory belongs to all of you, this is the victory of your trust in Prime Minister Modi and BJP, this is the victory of Sanatan and in the honour of Mandi,” she wrote.
Kangana Ranaut’s entry into the 2024 Mandi Lok Sabha elections added a notable twist to the political landscape. Known for her outspoken and controversial nature, she campaigned extensively across the constituency, drawing large crowds and receiving strong support from Prime Minister Narendra Modi and other top BJP leaders.
