After the report from the National Bomb Data Center (NBDC), the State Police Headquarters has handed over the investigation of the Shimla restaurant blast to the State Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The NBDC’s report reportedly denies the possibility of a gas leak as the cause of the explosion. Earlier, the police had conducted their investigation, and the State Forensic Lab had attributed the blast to LPG gas leakage.
The explosion occurred in a restaurant in Shimla’s Middle Bazaar in July, causing significant damage and resulting in two fatalities and dozens of injuries. Following the incident, the State Police Headquarters had requested the NBDC to investigate the case. The NBDC team had collected evidence from the scene and has now released a report contradicting the theory of an LPG leak, hinting at the possibility of an explosive device.
While the Shimla police and the State Forensic Lab’s investigations had pointed to a gas leak as the cause of the explosion, the CID has taken over the case following the NBDC’s report.
