The Indian Army is set to host the Spiti Marathon 2024 on September 28-29, marking a historic first as a high-altitude marathon in the remote Spiti Valley. The event, organized under Operation Sadbhavana, will take place at the Him Warrior Military Station in Sumdo, Kaza sub-division, Lahaul-Spiti district, Himachal Pradesh.
Highlighting Army’s Role in Remote Regions
The Spiti Marathon aims to showcase the Indian Army’s commitment to the remote areas of Himachal Pradesh, promoting local culture and tourism in border regions. The marathon also aligns with the Government of India’s ‘Vibrant Village Program,’ designed to spotlight the vitality of villages in Spiti Valley, encouraging physical fitness, mental resilience, and fostering stronger ties with the local community.

The marathon is a joint endeavor involving the Indo-Tibetan Border Police, Himachal Pradesh Tourism Department, Himachal Pradesh Police, and the civil administration of Kaza. Four Marathon Categories with Over 36 Awards
The Spiti Marathon 2024 will feature four different categories, offering prize money in over 36 awards. The race details are as follows:
– 77 km Spiti Avenger Challenge*: Starts at 5:00 AM from Kaza on September 28.
– 42 km Spiti Full Marathon*: Starts at 7:00 AM from Him Warrior Military Station, Sumdo on September 28.
– 21 km Spiti Half Marathon*: Starts from Him Warrior Military Station, Sumdo.
– 10 km Run for Fun*: Begins at 7:00 AM from Sumdo on September 29.
