In a major success against drug peddlers, the Una police have arrested two alleged drug smugglers in Amb during the bustling Holi Mohalla fair of Dera Baba Badbhaag Singh Maidi.
This seizure marks the largest recovery of contraband in the district’s history, with authorities seizing 100.55 grams of chitta from the accused.
The arrested accused have been identified as Amritsar residents Shankar, son of Balbir Singh from Maqboolpur House Number-220, and Jasvir Singh, son of Harbhajan Singh, residing in Bhai Manjh Road, Gangaji Nagar tehsil. The police claimed the accused were reportedly supplying drugs at the fair.
Acting on a tip-off, Una SP Rakesh Singh coordinated with Amb SHO Gaurav Bhardwaj, ASI Vipin Kumar and their team to nan the accused, who were allegedly masquerading as devotees. Undercover officers discreetly intercepted the suspects in Jwar, leading to the seizure of the illicit substance, along with ₹10,500 in cash and a weighing scale.
The accused have been charged under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, and legal proceedings have commenced. Following their arrest, they were presented before the Sub Judge Court, which remanded them into custody for five days to facilitate further investigation.
The successful operation underscored the efforts of law enforcement agencies in curbing the menace of drug trafficking, said an official.
