After a gap of about nine months, the Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) is resuming its bus service on the Leh-Delhi route, one of the longest and toughest links in the country.

The bus will depart from Keylong depot on Tuesday (June 11, 2024) morning at 5 am, embarking on the 1,026 km journey to Delhi. This highly anticipated service offers passengers the opportunity to traverse some of Northern India’s most breathtaking landscapes for a fare of Rs 1,740.

The 30-hour route provides a unique travel experience, allowing passengers to enjoy the diverse valleys of Delhi, Haryana, Punjab, Himachal Pradesh and Leh-Ladakh. This scenic journey through hilly and snowy terrain promises to be a memorable adventure for tourists and locals alike.

An official of the HRTC’s Keylong depot confirmed that the bus would depart from Keylong to Leh via Sarchu at 5 am. “Passengers will be treated to stunning views of high-altitude passes, including the 16,500 feet high Baralacha, 15,547 feet Naku La, 17,480 feet Tangling La and 16,616 feet high Lachung Pass,” said the official.

The bus service has undergone a route change this year. The bus traveling from Delhi will no longer stop overnight at the Keylong district headquarters. Instead, it will have a brief 30-minute stop at the Keylong bus stand in the morning. According to the revised schedule, the bus will depart from Delhi at 12.15 pm, leave Chandigarh at 6.10 pm, arrive at Keylong by 5 am and continue towards Leh at 5.30 am.

The resumption comes after the Border Roads Organisation granted permission for the route to be operational again. The decision to restart the service from June 11 marks a significant step in reconnecting these remote regions and providing a vital transportation link for both residents and travellers.
