HRTC bus with 35 passengers buried in a landslide

A truck, some cars are also reported to be under the debris

A massive landslide and rocks plummeting down on the Ferozepur (Punjab)-Shipki La (Kinnaur) national highway 5 hit a Himachal Road Transport Corporation (HRTC) bus with about 35 passengers near Nigulsari in Kinnaur on Wednesday.

The bus was buried under the debris. A truck and a few cars are also reported to be buried under the debris.


The bus was travelling to Reckong Peo, the headquarters of Kinnaur district, on the national highway also known as Indo Tibet Border Road, when the accident happened. Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur directed rescue teams to head for the spot.


Bhavnagar deputy superintendent of police Raju informed that the bus driver, who managed to escape, said that there were about 35 passengers travelling in it. Raju said that a truck and a few cars are also buried in the debris.


So far four persons have been rescued from under the debris even as rocks kept plummeting down. Rescue teams are heading for the accident spot.

Kinnaur MLA Jagat Singh Negi said that the rescue operation was being severely hampered due to the continuing shower of rocks and debris.
